Low carb diets have become popular in the last few years. It all started in the 70s with Dr. Atkins who promoted an extreme low carb diet without grains and legumes. In fact, Atkins and Paleo diets are very similar, but the latter is less restrictive with fruits and more fiber. Like Atkins, Paleo diet has its own merits. No question that in the short-run, you will lose weight without feeling hungry all the time. But this book promotes Paleo as the only way to go, based on a theory that it was the food of our hunting ancestors up to 10.0000 years ago, when farming introduced grains in the human diet. According to the author, since farming started, people have been eating completely wrong and are not healthy anymore, from West to East. What a strong statement. I wonder if that includes Okinawa people who are famous for living long. They eat rice and legumes regularly. I understand that the author has celiac disease and a strong bias against grains. In fact, doctors know that patients who have autoimmune disease seem to benefit from diets without grains and dairy. In reality we need carbs, especially after moderate to intense physical activity. Even Cordain concedes that people need a good source of carbs as part of a meal after intense workout. It seems that this case doesn`t fit well into the hunter theory or perhaps the theory is flexible. In addition, if you do regular workouts, you will be disapointed with the chapter of exercises. It’s incomplete, very light and just for beginners. According to the author, it’s not to burn yourself out.

Another concern is that Paleo emphasizes too much animal protein the same way as the Atkins diet. Interesting to note that Dr. Atkins didn’t live long. In addition, many articles have been published showing a strong correlation between animal food excess consumption and cancer. Our digestive system is not prepared for such a quantity of meat and we have only four canines in our mouth. As primates, we are not heavy meat eaters.

How’s the Lean Cuisine meals working out for you? that’s what i thought. quit being a skirt and buy this freaking book. Robb Wolf is THE MAN and has done all of the work for you! All you have to do is follow the “pseudo-scientific” advice which has been proven again and again and you too can reach your goals with ease. Read this book and get your crap together sissy.

As a fan of Robb Wolf’s blog and podcast, I’ve been waiting for this book for several months. It was everything I expected and more. So far I’ve purchased 10 copies to share with friends and family. I’ll be getting a few more before Christmas. Robb’s message is revolutionary and life changing. If you or someone you love is plagued by chronic health problems then this book is for you. If you just want to look better naked, again, this book is for you.

I just finished reading the Paleo Solution by Robb Wolff (Kindle Edition). In the book there are many things I enjoyed, but also many things that I did not enjoy. I particularly liked Robb’s story because I also have struggled with diet as a young man. However, Robb makes too much small talk about the complicated nature of nutrition. His analogies and acronyms gloss over the main points of what you need to know. In the end you are left with relatively ineffective information. At the end of the book, I was still asking questions like, “Why can’t I eat potatoes?” The book doesn’t even include a basic list of do’s and don’t. After reading his book, I’m still interested in the Paleo Diet, but need to look to other sources for more adequate information.

FYI: For those of you using Kindle. This edition is poor. The sections are organized in a very awkward way that makes keeping track of your progress very difficult. Again, look elsewhere.

I have anticipated this book for a long time, and now that it is here I’m not disappointed. In the Paleo Solution, Robb Wolf will change your views on nutrition and its true effects on your health. The book is hilarious, easy to read, and is something that I will continue to refer back to. Robb does an excellent job of breaking down diet in a scientific manner, that is easy to understand. It is a perfect edition to any coaches library, or for anyone interested in improving their health.

What I love about this book is how Robb is able to present such a wealth of information in a way that is fun, readable, and well-organized, while also being chock-full of the meaty scientific data that usually makes books on diet, lifestyle, and exercise so complicated.

The bottom line is simple: with the agricultural revolution 10,000 years ago, humans made a simple trade-off. Cultivating grains allowed us to grow lots MORE food, but it wasn’t BETTER food. This allowed us to feed lots more people, while all living in the same place instead of wandering around looking for food. And most cultures today use grains as a staple – ie filler – to round out the REAL food – meats, veggies, fruits and nuts.

What Robb does so well is to turn conventional food wisdom on its head, and show you how cutting out grains, along with better sleep and exercise can restore you to Paleo Health!

There is a lot of good information in this book, and I hesitate to criticize it too harshly because I agree with most of what he says and I think it’s important that the information get out there to as many people as possible. But, man, Robb Wolf’s cutesy, folksy writing style makes me cringe. The way this book is written feels patronizing to me; he’s trying way too hard to talk about “nerdy ‘sciency’ stuff” as if his audience is highly allergic to using their brains at all. Maybe he’s right, but personally I find being treated by an author like I’m stupid to be very irritating. I haven’t quite finished the book, but if he calls me “Buttercup” one more time I’m going to throw it across the room.

This is a great book! The diet that has been forced down the throats of Americans (literally and figuratively) since the 1950s is a lie predicated on faulty science and puritanical ideas. Robb Wolf explains to you how pretty much everything that you have been told by doctors, the government, and “traditional” low-fat/high-carb diets is killing you. If you want to live a healthier life through a better diet, then this book is for you. If you want to look better naked, then this book is for you. If you do Crossfit and your trainer and fellow athletes have been talking about this weird thing called “Paleo,” then this book is for you. Finally, if you are human, then this book is for you. This is how humans are supposed to eat.
